Winter texts Bookshop Used Books Buying Policy

We buy books from 12 to 3:00 pm every day we are open except Saturdays.

We do not take appointments, as it is first-come-first-served. (Our buying hours are subject to change without notice.)

New to the process? Here are some useful tips!

  • It will usually take us 10-30 minutes to look at your books.

  • You will need to wait in the shop while we look. No drop-offs allowed!

  • We pay about 20-30% of our projected retail price depending on the book. (And 50% if you choose to take store credit!)

  • We must see your books in person to determine if we will buy them.

  • We are willing to make house calls for extensive libraries in the Port Townsend/Chimacum area. Email us with more information about your needs.

What do we want to buy?

  • We buy all genres, but we are selective about our curation, so bring them into the shop to find out.

  • We are always eager to buy quality paperback fiction & non-fiction.

  • Science fiction and fantasy is always exciting to see.

  • As well, philosophy, nature writing, and poetry are shop favorites.

  • We adore quality. When deciding what to buy, we look for:

    • No writing or highlighting [select marginalia is fine]

    • No tears or creases

    • No strong odors

    • No water damage, stains, or mildew

    • No cracked or damaged spines

  • There is no secret formula! We may surprise you as to what we do and don't want. Bring your undamaged books into the shop and find out.

What do we NEVER buy?

  • Hardcover mysteries and thrillers

  • Romantasy

  • Magazines, comic books, literary journals, or National Geographics, etc

  • Time Life books

  • Encyclopedia sets
