Special Release Hymnal
Folded A4 paper, stapled and gifted by hand
After a long, long winter I heard Ross Gay read his long poem/sermon/story "Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude". It struck me. As it struck many others. It has that quality of sadness that seems to find the seams between us, pulling tight the loose threads of joy and suffering, calling into being a way of being that is contained with that word "gratitude".
I asked Ross for permission to produce a zine out of this poem. I gathered the supplies and printed copies and handed them out all across town. In hopes, perhaps naively, that poetry can sink into our lives, saving a few of us, and create a web of meaning.
I still read this aloud. I still hand out copies of it. Though they are no longer for sale by donation. You'll just have to come by Port Townsend and find one.
